Ben Birdsong was called as our Student Minister in September 2013. Prior to coming to Meadow Brook Baptist Church, Ben served with the student ministries at Green Valley Baptist Church in Hoover, Alabama, Mountain Brook Community Church in Mountain Brook, Alabama, and First Baptist Church of Pelham, Alabama. He has also served with students with First Priority of Alabama and Student Life, Inc. Ben is originally from Birmingham, Alabama. Ben attended high school at Shades Mountain Christian School. He has bachelors degrees in Marketing and Human Resource Management from the University of Alabama at Birmingham, a Masters of Divinity degree from Samford University’s Beeson Divinity School, and a Doctor of Ministry in Ministry to Emerging Generations at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary. Ben was licensed and ordained to the ministry at the Church at Brook Hills in July of 2009.
In addition to serving with students at Meadow Brook Baptist Church, Ben also serves as advisory team member for the Scott Dawson Evangelistic Association. In the past, Ben has also served as the Shelby County Network President and on the Board of Directors for First Priority of Alabama, on the youth minister advisory board for the YouthMinistry360 publishing company, and on the youth evangelism planning team with the Alabama Baptist State Board of Missions.
Ben is married to Liz, who serves with our students. He enjoys reading, writing, watching movies, and good conversations over a drink at Starbucks.
Tommy Shaw serves as our student ministry intern. He is a graduate of Oak Mountain High School and our youth group. Tommy is currently a student at Jefferson State Community College majoring in computer science. In his free time, Tommy enjoys reading and spending time with friends.
Samantha Taylor serves as our Student Ministry Intern. She graduated from Oak Mountain High School in 2017 and is now studying English Education at Mississippi College in Clinton, Mississippi. In her free time, she enjoys reading, writing, and searching used book stores for texts to use in her future classroom.
